History: When a band of thieves retrieved what they believed to be a large Opal from the 'hill of death' on New Guinea, one of them turned on his allies and thought to have killed them. As the man suffered from athlete's foot, he accidentally left the lamp on in his room on the boat ride home. As the ship docked, the lamp began to heat up the jewel, and the thought to be jewel hatched, a tiny creature emerging. The heat of the lamp mutated the monster, making it grow to an extremely large size, and the monster Barugon was born.

Barugon entered the bay, smashing his way through buildings that were sprawled out before him. Fires began to rage in the city and horned dinosaur waded into Osaka, the military powerless to halt him. Tanks and buildings alike were frozen by the reptile's ice mist, and with the city frozen under a blanket of solid ice. As the creature went to sleep, the military began to aim several long range missiles at the creature, but before they could be fired, the monster awoke. Sensing the danger, Barugon's rainbow ray leaped from its back and struck the missiles, vaporizing the entire missile base.

As the ray moved, the monster Gamera was attracted to the rainbow's intense heat, and began to fly into it, feeding on the energy. When Barugon ended the rainbow ray, Gamera landed, challenging the horned lizard. The massive turtle moved to attack, and as the battle raged, the two trading blows, Barugon unleashed his ice mist. The freezing temperatures quickly freezing the massive reptile, and while Gamera managed to get one last strike in before completely falling to the monster's might.

As Barugon moved through the Japanese country side, the government took help from the old Barugon myth from New Guinea, and began to lure the monster to one of the country's lakes via a large diamond. When the plan stopped working, helicopters began to poor artificial rain on the monster, its weakening affects on the lizard forcing the monster to remain in one spot as scientists worked on a way to amplify the diamond's affect on the creature.

A jeep was outfitted with an amplifier that enlarged the affect the diamond had, making the horned reptile follow the jeep back to the lake. The plan worked and Barugon was lured to the water's edge, but when the same thief who released Barugon tried to steal the diamond, Barugon's long tongue stretched out and caught the man, eating him along with the only hope left to stop the quick freeze monster. As helicopters once again dumped rain on him, it was noted from his prior usage of the ray, that its rainbow failed to destroy mirrors. Taking advantage of this, a large dish like mirror was constructed not far away from the monster.

Tanks began to fire on the creature, and once again, Barugon fought back with his rainbow. When the rainbow hit the mirror, the intense energies fired back, striking the monster's hide. Its skin bubbled and boiled, downing the monstrous reptile by its very own attack. While the attack failed to kill Barugon, it did guarantee their safety from the monster's rainbow, and as Barugon rested, Osaka and Gamera began to thaw.

Gamera began to fly directly toward Barugon, seeking to extract revenge for its previous defeat. The area was cleared of military personal as the two behemoths once again waged war against one another. The fight moved into the water's edge, and the mammoth turtle finally tossed the horned monster into the deeper parts of the lake. As Barugon began to swim to shore, Gamera began to push the monster back and clamped its tusked jaws into Barugon's neck. Screaming as he was pulled into the water, the monstrous Barugon met his end as his blue blood gushed from his neck wound, his cries silenced by the water that entered his lungs and drowned him.
