History: Emerging from the deep dark ocean depths, Gargantus made his first appearance on the surface world. As he approached civilization, military forces were there to engage the beast in combat. Their attacks had little to no effect on him, and his advance upon a nearby city went unchallenged. Just as he was about to unleash his fury upon the glittering metropolis... the undersea giant suddenly collapsed. It was realized that, being an underwater creature, Gargantus could not stay in the thin atmosphere of the surface world. Believing him to be dead, Gargantus' corpse was quickly hurled back into the ocean.
Though it was soon apparent, years later, that the creature was not as dead as was hoped. He soon returned to menacing mankind, and it was discovered that the creature could even speak. But like before, his apparent plans were halted soon after his re - emergence from the ocean deapths... as he was electrocuted whilst underwater.
The world would again believe this creature to be dead once more, but that was farthest from the truth. It's comatose body had simply been taken by the man known as the Collector. Gargantus would join a literal menagerie of other giant beasts that had menaced mankind as well. This would continue until the Mole Man, another figure firmly entrenched with Giant Monsters, engaged the Collector in combat. The battle resulted in the giant creatures escaping from their captivity.
Gargantus, along with a small number of other giant behemoths, attacked New York City soon after their escape. Their monstrous onslaught was halted by the combined efforts of the Hulk, the Thing, Giant Man and the Beast. Upon achieving victory, the heroes sent the defeated daikaiju into the Negative Zone.
