History: In the not too distant future, the big corporation, Omni Consumer Products, was attempting to take over the crime-infested hellhole known as Old Detroit, a part of the city that has long since gone to the various gangs and crime lords. Instead of rebuilding Old Detroit, OCP intends to instead replace it with a modern utopia, dubbed Delta City. But before anything can come of this, OCP intends to end the crime that has overwhelmed both the city and the police department, but recent cop killings have led to talks of a police strike, thus complicating matters even more.
In response to this, Senior Vice President Dick Jones unveils a new creation to the board of directors, the ED-209 enforcement droid. With this droid he hopes to end the crime wave sweeping through the city, but the demonstration ends in disastrous results, including the death of a junior executive whom the malfunctioning machine brutally murders. Needless to say, this effectively ruins Dick Jones' plans, and eventually gives birth to the creation of Robocop.
But the ED-209 wasn't gone. It was soon unleashed upon Robocop himself when the police officer came to arrest Dick Jones later on in the film. While it may have been an inferior machine, the 209 unit still had the advantage in weaponry and sheer size, dominating the much smaller Robocop. Fortunately, Robocop manages to escape via the one thing that proves to be a major obstacle to the 209 unit; stairs.
Much later, the 209 unit is positioned outside the OCP headquarters, protecting the premises during the eventual police strike. Soon Robocop appears once again, but this time came much more prepared for battle with his giant adversary. Armed with a Cobra assault cannon, Robocop makes short work of the robot.
Despite their drawbacks, the 209 units were still used extensively by OCP, mainly in security. But they were still prone to problems that greatly reduce their reliability.
