History: During the Tophet campaign, SICON introduced a new robotic weapon system, called the Cybernetic Humanoid Assault System. The first field unit was sent to aid the Roughnecks. It proved to be extremely effective, but despite its highly advanced learning AI it was still a machine that lacked human feelings. At least, it did at first. When Higgins stepped on a landmine, C.H.A.S. rushed to rescue the soldier. Replacing its own foot on the device, C.H.A.S. told Higgins that some losses are acceptable, and then threw him to safety. With hundreds of Arachnids closing in, C.H.A.S. unloaded all of his weaponry upon the advancing horde. Upon depleting his ammunition, the machine deployed his arm spikes and allowed the Arachnids to close in. Now fighting the Bugs in brutal melee, C.H.A.S. turned and called out to the Roughnecks one last time before taking his foot off the landmine. The explosion set off a chain reaction with the rest of the mines, killing all of the attacking Bugs.
Ultimately, the C.H.A.S. units weren’t deemed cost-effective and the project was scrapped. However, a few units were used at later dates, mainly serving as automated sentries. These units lacked the original’s intelligence and combat ability.
