Warrior Bug Height: 7 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Burrowing Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Mandibles: The Arachnid Warriors’ massive, serrated mandibles are strong enough to bite a person in two with ease. - Spear Legs: The Arachnid Warriors have spear-like legs which they can use to stab and slash at opponents. - Adaptable: Being the main force of the Bug army, it comes as little surprise that the Warriors are highly adaptable and can survive in nearly any environment, from the -380° F temperatures of Pluto, to the deadly heat of Tophet, and even in the vacuum of space. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Pluto Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Hydora Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: Trackers (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: The backbone of the Arachnid army, the Warrior Bugs weren’t the largest, strongest, nor fastest bugs. But they more than made up for their shortcomings by sheer force of numbers, being more numerous than any other Arachnid by at least a dozen to one. The Warriors appeared on every major battlefront of the war, claiming countless human lives over the course of the conflict.

Tanker Bug Height: 30 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Burrowing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Flame Streams: The Arachnid Tankers can emit twin streams of flaming liquid from their heads. Upon hitting a solid object, the streams explode with enough force to shatter rocks. - Armor: The Arachnid Tanker Bugs are covered in incredibly tough armor which is impervious to anything short of extremely powerful explosives. - Cold Resistance: The Tanker Bugs are capable of surviving the -380° F temperatures of Pluto with no difficulty. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Pluto Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Among the largest and most powerful of the Arachnids, the Tanker Bugs are truly a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. Only encountered on Pluto, the Tankers would burst from the ground, taking groups of soldiers by surprise and sending them scattering for cover.

Plasma Bug Height: 60 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Powers: - Bug Plasma: The Arachnid Plasma Bugs can work up large amounts of highly-explosive plasma in their abdomens, which they can then launch incredible distances out of their posteriors. - Adaptable: The Plasma Bugs are highly adaptable and can survive in nearly any environment, from the -380° F temperatures of Pluto, to the deadly heat and of Tophet, and even in the vacuum of space. Weaknesses: If struck by any sort of explosive while charging up their plasma, the highly volatile substance will explode, killing the Plasma Bug as well as anything else unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity. First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Pluto Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: Trackers (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: One of the largest of all the combat Arachnids, the Plasma Bugs were first encountered on Pluto. Throughout the war, they primarily served as anti-aircraft units, launching gouts of plasma at SICON spaceships and dropships in space, but they also sometimes functioned as artillery, bombarding enemies from afar to soften them up. Early on in the campaign, on Pluto, the Roughnecks were called upon to assist in capturing a baby Plasma Bug to be studied in hopes of learning how the bugs produce their plasma. The mission was ultimately a failure, though, for after they loaded the baby onto a dropship and began heading back to base, they received a radio transmission that a huge number of Arachnids appeared and were dealing heavy damage to the Mobile Infantry below. A large group of soldiers was trapped and about to be overrun. Realizing the lives of fellow soldiers were far more important than the bug onboard, Lieutenant Razak ordered the pilot of the dropship to change course and head for the advancing Arachnid forces. Once overhead, the baby Plasma Bug was dropped. Upon hitting the ground, the creature exploded, setting off a chain reaction with the nearby adult Plasma Bugs, resulting in a series of massive explosions which killed all the attacking Bugs.

Sentry Bug Height: 1 foot Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Mandibles: The Arachnid Sentry Bugs have small but powerful jaws, strong enough to easily bite through thick steel cables. - Cold Resistance: The Sentry Bugs are capable of surviving the -380° F temperatures of Pluto with no difficulty. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Pluto Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Small Arachnids encountered on Pluto, the Sentry Bugs acted as a sort of early warning system, hence their name. They were often found in or near Bug nests, where they presumably carried out assorted menial tasks unsuited to their larger brethren. Due to their small stature and lack of real offensive ability, they were often mowed down with little effort by the Mobile Infantry.

Hopper Bug Height: 7 feet Length: Not Available Wingspan: Not Available Mass: Not Available Flight Speed: Moderate Running Speed: Moderate Powers: - Spear Legs: The Hopper Bugs have spear-like legs which they can use to stab and slash at opponents. - Stinger: Hopper Bugs have a stinger on the end of their abdomen. Whether this carries any venom or is simply a large spike is unknown. - Adaptable: The Arachnid Hoppers are highly adaptable and can survive in nearly any environment, from the -380° F temperatures of Pluto, to the Earth-like conditions of Tesca Nemerosa, and even in the vacuum of space. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Pluto Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: Trackers (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Acting as aerial support, the Hoppers are essentially flying Warrior Bugs. Initially encountered on Pluto, the Hoppers proved to be a serious threat. Already backed into a corner by a Tanker Bug and a swarm of Warriors, things seemed hopeless for the Roughnecks and their fellow squad when the Hoppers arrived. Realizing they didn’t have enough ammo to take out the flying bugs one-by-one while still holding off the ground swarm, they hatched a plan to exploit the fact that Hoppers are drawn to laser fire like moths to a light bulb. The humans set up a laser charge to attract the Hoppers to an area laced with explosives. The plan worked, and the aerial menace was eliminated. Or so they thought. In reality, thousands more of the Hoppers were merely waiting to swarm into action. Temporarily replaced by the Kamikaze Ripplers on Hydora, the Hoppers saw combat again on Tesca Nemerosa, and from then on they were present on every major battlefront of the war.

Far more than there should be. The reason for this became clear when the Roughnecks stumbled upon an incredible sight: an utterly gigantic bug flying down to Pluto’s surface. Once it landed, a large number of Warriors and Hoppers began carrying hundreds of eggs out of the Transport Bug’s cavernous body. With this revelation, it became clear to the SICON forces that the Arachnids were not native to Pluto as they had originally thought. Throughout the war, the Transport Bugs carried the Arachnid forces to the various planets they hoped to conquer.

Kamikaze Rippler Height: 7 feet Length: Not Available Wingspan: Not Available Mass: Not Available Flight Speed: Moderate Running Speed: Moderate Swimming Speed: Moderate Powers: - Spike Spit: The Kamikaze Ripplers are able to spit foot-long, serrated spikes from their mouths. Despite these spikes being incredibly potent in their own right, the spikes launched by later generations are coated with a powerful corrosive venom strong enough to dissolve metal, making them even deadlier. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Hydora Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Upon landing on Hydora, a planet whose surface was 90% water, the Roughnecks were immediately confronted with a new strain of Arachnid. Possibly related to the Hoppers, the Kamikaze Ripplers quickly proved their usefulness. With their ability to swim nearly as fast as they could fly, the Ripplers were perfectly adapted to the water planet. The fliers appeared on several other planets during the war, performing their mission with deadly efficiency.

So the Arachnid army deployed a new, aquatic type of bug. The Water Tigers, as the SICON forces dubbed them, patrolled the seas and waterways, attacking any trooper unfortunate enough to encounter them. They proved effective in their role, and appeared in the waters of both Tesca Nemerosa and Earth.

Brain Bug Height: 15 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Powers: - Psychic Scream: The Arachnid Brain Bugs can unleash a psychic “scream” which causes excruciating pain in the target. - Proboscis: The Brain Bugs possess a proboscis which they can use to suck out peoples’ brains and gain their knowledge. - Adaptable: The Brain Bugs can survive in nearly any environment, from Earth to the deadly heat and methane-based atmosphere of Tophet. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Hydora Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: On Hydora, Carl Jenkins, a member of the Roughnecks with psychic abilities, kept getting strange psychic signals from an unknown source. When the leader of another Mobile Infantry squad was discovered, suffering from amnesia and with the rest of his squad nowhere to be seen, Carl was forced to stay onboard the Valley Forge to try and dig up the man’s memories while the rest of the Roughnecks went to investigate. Eventually, Carl uncovered the memories and, realizing the danger his friends were in, immediately took several heavily armed troopers down to the planet. Meanwhile, in an underground cavern, the Roughnecks had been captured and brought before the Brain Bug. Just as Rico was about to get his brain sucked out, Carl and the other troopers arrived, and in a blaze of gunfire killed all of the Warriors and Ripplers guarding the Brain Bug. Throwing down his weapon, Carl approached the bulbous Arachnid, which was now holding Johnny in its mandibles to serve as a meat shield. Having realized this was the source of the psychic signals he had been picking up, Carl began to talk to the bug. The conversation ended with the Brain attacking the men with its Psychic Scream, only to have Carl retaliate with a psychic attack of his own which ultimately caused the bug to explode. Months later, on Tophet, the Roughnecks were captured by the Skinnies. Carl and Brutto were taken away from the others and brought to another chamber. There they were confronted by another Brain Bug. However, before their brains could be devoured, the duo managed to steal a pair of electrified staffs from the Skinnies. They then plunged the weapons directly into the Bug’s body, electrocuting the creature. Toward the end of the war, on Earth, Private Higgins and General Redwing were captured and brought before yet another Brain while on a trip to spread Lieutenant Razak’s ashes over a nearby lake. Because Redwing was such a high ranking officer, the Roughnecks knew they couldn’t allow the Brain Bug to attain her knowledge. Using jury-rigged explosives which they planted on the adjacent cliff face, they managed to crush the Brain under tons of rubble and rescue both Higgins and Redwing.

Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: During the campaign on Tophet, the S.I.C.O.N. forces encountered yet another new strain of Arachnid. The Blister Bugs often accompanied swarms of Warrior Bugs trying to assault fortified structures, serving to burn straight through the walls and allow the Warriors to pour in. The Blisters were encountered again on Klendathu, where they served a similar purpose.

Blaster Bug AKA: Choleoptera Fulgurix Height: 30 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Burrowing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Heat Blast: The Arachnid Blaster Bugs can draw heat from their surroundings to ignite a biochemical reaction in their prothorax, focusing it into a blast of heat hot enough to melt rock and turn sand to glass. - Heat Resistance: Given their nature, it comes as little surprise that the Blaster Bugs can withstand incredibly high temperatures with no difficulty. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Seemingly derived from the Blister Bugs, the Blaster Bugs were three times the size and spat blasts of heat from their huge mouths instead of acid. One of the huge bugs was first seen by the Roughnecks when C.H.A.S. was assigned to their squad. The robot quickly analyzed the situation and dispatched the Arachnid by firing a pair of rockets into its gaping maw. Months later, just prior to the end of the Tophet campaign, the Roughnecks came across an entire swarm of Blaster Bugs, which promptly pinned them down with repeated walls of fire. Utilizing a pair of experimental thermal shields, Rico and Brutto managed to get close enough to throw grenades under the Arachnids’ feet, which resulted in an explosion that killed the whole swarm.

Control Bug Height: 8 inches Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Mind Control: By hooking onto a creature’s spine, the Control Bugs are able to gain control of its body. - Extraordinary Jumper: The Control Bugs are able to jump high and far through the air. - Adaptable: The Control Bugs can survive in nearly any environment, from the Earth-like conditions of Tesca Nemerosa to the deadly heat and methane-based atmosphere of Tophet. Weaknesses: High intensity X-rays will drive a Control Bug off of its host. First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tophet Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: After nearly three months of fighting both the Arachnids and the Skinnies on Tophet, the Roughnecks managed to capture Colonel T’Phai, the leader of the Skinnie army. After a normal interrogation failed, Carl was ordered to probe the alien’s mind with his psychic powers. In doing so, he finds that T’Phai’s mind seems to have two voices. Doc puts the Skinnie through an X-ray machine to find the cause, driving the Control Bug off T-Phai’s back in the process. Now knowing the reason behind the Skinnies’ aggression, and with a new ally on their side, the Roughnecks set out to free the Skinnies from their Arachnid controllers. From that point, it wasn’t long before the conflict on Tophet drew to a close. The Control Bugs surfaced once again on Tesca Nemerosa. Utilizing tunnels dug by Tanker Worms, the insidious bugs attempted to sneak under the base on Zegema Beach and take control of everyone there. They were ultimately thwarted by Johnny Rico, who had been in a liquid-filled isolation tank to heal from injuries sustained on a mission, which allowed him to hear the underground tunneling when no one else could.

Spider Bug Height: 3-12 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Fangs: While they apparently carry no venom, the huge fangs of the Arachnid Spiders still make deadly stabbing weapons. - Webbing: The Spider Bugs can emit strings of web from their abdomens which they can use to wrap up prey or hang from trees. Also, the smaller Spiders are able to spit a mist-like spray of silk from their mouths. - Extraordinary Jumper: The Spider Bugs are able to jump high and far through the air. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999), Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: While on a routine patrol on Tesca Nemerosa, the Roughnecks soon found themselves being picked off one by one by some unseen creature. Suspecting a new sort of Arachnid, the team split into pairs to search for their missing members. The buddy system was quickly abandoned, though, when Doc and Razak were caught as well. Brutto was captured next, when he rushed off alone. With the final three members having no intention of splitting up, the attacker was finally spotted when it attacked next. Finally showing itself to be a massive, spider-like Arachnid, the creature snatched Dizzy and quickly escaped back into the trees. Rico and T’Phai attempted to give chase, but after hours of tracking through the jungle the trail seemed cold. It seemed as though the Arachnid had led them on a wild goose chase to exhaust them. It was then that Rico came up with the idea to plant a tracking device on T’Phai and leave him out in the open to intentionally be captured. The plan worked, and Rico followed the bug to its lair. Once inside, T’Phai burst from his web cocoon and double-teamed the giant Spider with Rico, finally killing the bug. Fortunately for the Mobile Infantry, it would seem as though that original Spider was a one-of-a-kind “prototype.” All Spiders encountered after that point were much smaller and seemingly much less intelligent, they made up for their inferiority by attacking in swarms.

Nurser Bug Height: 15 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Powers: - DNA Extract: Using their fangs, the Nurser Bugs are able to extract the DNA of other creatures. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Tesca Campaign (1999) Human Kills: None Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Instead of trying to terraform worlds to suit themselves, the Arachnids instead changed themselves to suit the planets they invaded. This is where the Nurser Bugs came in. The bugs would extract DNA from native creatures and mix it with a powerful mutagen inside their bodies, and then feed the mixture to hatchling Arachnids. Due to their lack of fighting ability, they are only found deep within Arachnid nests, caring for eggs.

Their assumption couldn’t be more wrong, however, as the tunnels were in fact dug by Tanker Worms in preparation for an invasion of the base by Control Bugs. While on the way to meet up with a science vessel searching for a toxin to use against the Arachnids, Zander’s “rash” revealed itself to be an infection of Arachnid spores when hundreds on tiny, flying Bugs erupted from the area and began wreaking havoc. Several of the Firefries made their way into Zander’s helmet, burning his face and causing him to crash land on a large asteroid. The ship was badly damaged, and the tiny Bugs flew out through the open cockpit. The Roughnecks assumed this was the end of the Bugs because of the extreme environment, but they couldn’t have been more wrong...

Once on board the Valley Forge, Zander, now mutated into a towering half human, half bug creature, escaped from his stasis pod and quickly took over control of the ship. As the Roughnecks tried to make their way to the command deck, Zander redirected the ship to an unknown planet and tried to crash land on the surface. The humans managed to regain control of the ship in time to avert disaster, but Zander slipped into an escape pod and fled to the planet below. From there, it didn’t take the troopers long to realize why he’d taken the ship to this particular planet. It was the Arachnid home world: Klendathu.

A small group of them took the Roughnecks by surprise by emerging from an alkaline lake that was thought too inhospitable for life. Shortly afterward, at the same lake, another group attacked the Roughnecks’ dropship. Fortunately, Gossard was able to quickly rewire the craft so that it could deliver a powerful electric shock through its hull. This forced the Rhino Bugs to back off, allowing the ship to take off. Many months later, on Earth, the Roughnecks and Walker’s Rangers were attempting to thwart a massive impending attack on San Francisco. The plan was to detonate a series of explosives on the bottom of the bay, thus breaking into the Bug tunnels running beneath the bay and filling them with water, drowning the Arachnids. Just as the troopers were about to retreat to a safe distance and set off the explosives, a Rhino Bug snatched Lieutenant Razak and dragged him beneath the waves. Knowing there was no escaping the creature, Razak armed a grenade and blew both himself and the giant bug up.

Nurser Spider Height: 8 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Blood Drain: Similar to the Nurser Bugs, the Nurser Spiders can drain a creature’s blood and use the DNA to create a mutagenic fluid to be fed to Arachnid larvae. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999) Human Kills: None Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: The Nurser Spiders were employed by Zander Bug to collect human DNA and use it to mutate Arachnid larvae into Impostor Bugs. Being defenseless, the Spiders could do nothing but attempt to flee when the Roughnecks attacked. It would appear as though they were all killed when the Bug mound collapsed around them, though.

Being nearly blind, they weren’t suited for combat and performed menial tasks within the hive, such as gathering food. Predictably, when the Roughnecks came across a number of them in a tunnel of the Arachnid Queen’s mound, the small creatures were no match and were easily mowed down.

Queen Bug Height: 20 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Armor: The Arachnid Queen has immensely tough armor capable of withstanding grenades with no damage. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Klendathu Campaign (1999) Other Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: Trackers (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: The leader and mother of the entire Arachnid army, the Arachnid Queen was capable of laying 1800 eggs per day in addition to masterminding every action her army made. Knowing that destroying the Queen would be imperative to winning the war, SICON ordered two of their best teams, Echo Squad and the Roughnecks, to infiltrate a Bug mound which she was suspected to be hiding in. Once deep inside the mound, the Roughnecks were ambushed by Royal Sentry Bugs which dragged Carl away. The reason for this became clear when they finally found the Queen. She held Carl in front of herself, simultaneously taunting them and preventing them from firing on her. Rico managed to work around this by firing at the roof of the cavern, dropping several large chunks of rubble on the Queen and making her release Carl. Knowing she was no match for the troopers on her own, the Queen fled to a waiting Transport Bug and escaped the planet. That Transport Bug then met with a Super Transport Bug in space, which then proceeded to head for Earth. The SICON forces managed to catch up to the Super Transport Bug and blow it up before it could land on Earth. Thinking the Queen to be dead, the SICON forces believed the war would soon be over. The Queen, however, was very much alive, and she had made it to Earth.

Following her escape from Klendathu, multiple Super Transport Bugs acted as decoys, keeping the SICON forces distracted while the one carrying the Queen slipped away and headed for Earth. This one was ultimately destroyed as well, but its cargo still made it to the Earth’s surface safely.

Infiltrator Bug Height: 8 feet Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Climbing Speed: Moderate Powers: - Disguise: The Infiltrator Bugs are able to assume perfect human form, though their appearance and conversational ability are limited. Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Homefront Campaign (1999) Human Kills: Not Available Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: An evolution of the Impostor Bugs, the Infiltrator Bugs were able to easily slip into human society and replace large portions of the populous. While on the way to a transport destined for the moons of Jupiter, the Roughnecks took a detour to investigate Carl’s feeling that Arachnids were on Earth. Stopping into a small town in North Dakota, it didn’t take them long to notice something was off about the townspeople. Most of them looked alike and all they ever said was that the weather was lovely. As they were discussing the strangeness of the situation, the townspeople started attacking them. On the way back to their ship, the troopers were able to tranquilize one of their attackers and bring him back for examination. Once on board, though, the man morphed into an Arachnid. The troopers quickly put the creature out of commission with shock sticks, allowing Carl to read its mind to see what the Arachnids were planning. Simply, it was sabotage. Hundreds of the creatures were in place around fifty key areas of the globe, one of which was the cold fusion plant a short distance from the town. They planned to make the plant meltdown, poisoning a huge area with radiation. Now knowing of the threat, the Roughnecks were able to prevent disaster. However, the other locations were not so fortunate, and many of them fell to Arachnid control thanks to the Infiltrators.

Momma Rippler Height: 30 feet Length: 70 feet Wingspan: Not Available Mass: Not Available Running Speed: Moderate Powers: None Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Hydora Campaign (1999) Human Kills: None Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Seemingly unlike other subspecies of Arachnid, the Kamikaze Ripplers have “queens” which specifically lay their eggs. When the Roughnecks stumbled into a cavern filled with thousands of Rippler eggs, they quickly decided to destroy the nest with explosive charges. After setting the timers on the bombs, the squad hurried to get out of the caves. Unfortunately for them, the angry Momma Rippler appeared. Knowing they didn’t have time to fight the behemoth, the troopers squeezed their hovercraft past it and gunned it for the exit. The giant bug gave chase, showing surprising speed for its bulk as it managed to keep hot on the tail of the hovercraft. Just as the vehicle approached the exit, the explosives detonated, filling the caves with a massive fireball before destroying the entire island in a massive mushroom cloud. The Momma Rippler was killed, but there were undoubtedly others on the planet, laying more eggs by the day.

Ice Bug Height: Not Available Length: Not Available Mass: Not Available Space Flight Speed: Moderate Powers: None Weaknesses: None First Appearance: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles: The Zephyr Campaign (1999) Human Kills: None Fight Record: Not Available Home World: Klendathu Origin: Klendathu Type: Alien History: Upon falling into what appeared to be an underground cavern on the ice asteroid, the Roughnecks realized that it wasn’t an asteroid at all. It was, in fact, a gigantic Arachnid. The Ice Bugs would sleep for thousands of years, drifting through space while waiting for a sufficient energy source to awaken them. The Firefries provided this energy, and the enormous bug was slowly beginning to awaken with the Zephyr trapped in its belly. In the event that they were unable to escape, the ship’s self-destruct mechanism was armed in hopes that they could take the Bug down with them. Fortunately, the troopers were able to fly the ship out of the Arachnid just as it fully awakened, leaving behind the self-destruct mechanism. As the Ice Bug began to give chase, the bomb inside it detonated, blowing the giant creature to pieces.
