History: In 1945, in the midst of the great World War 2, the United States dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan. The devastation of the attacks not only forced the Japanese into surrender, but put a fear unlike that of any other into the minds of its peoples. When the conflict ended, the world would never be the same. Mankind had been brought into the atomic age, creating even more powerful bombs than those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
These powerful bombs were tested by the United States in the Pacific Ocean. Throughout the following decade, the radiation of these tests began to spread. It killed all life, leaving bizarre, unspeakable mutations in its wake. However, the radiation didn’t kill one organism. Lurking off the coast of the small Odo Island, a living God was introduced to the fury of the atomic age.
A legend, the creature was reborn! Taller than a mountain, the beast was the king of all it saw. The name of the titan was enough to drive terror in the hearts of the islanders: Godzilla. The villagers began to pray for the beast’s mercy, but the ancient leviathan sought nothing more than vengeance. As passing ships drifted overhead, Godzilla obliterated them in a sea of fire!
Ship after ship was sunk, costing the nation hundreds of lives. As panic began to sweep across Japan, an expedition to Odo Island was put forth to investigate, but could only uncover strange, supernatural explanations from the natives. When nightfall finally crept onto the island, a fierce storm brew overhead. As rain pounded, something else sounded within the thunder. Godzilla had come ashore!
The monster crushed entire homes underfoot, but not a soul was able to see the beast shrouded in the darkness and rain. When no explanations could be uncovered, another research team was dispatched under the lead of Dr. Yamane, a brilliant paleontologist. When the group arrived on the island, they finally bore witness to the unbelievable horror that mankind had created.
Looking down at the screaming humans, Godzilla’s call echoed for miles. As the mortals fled, the leviathan turned around. He headed back out to sea, but now the world knew what it was up against. Fearing it would strike Tokyo; the Japanese prepared to fight back and deployed battleships equipped with depth charges. Trying to obliterate the first of its kind, the Japanese believed they had vanquished the monstrosity.
But as the people celebrated, the truth became clear. Godzilla not only survived the attack, but now he was even more enraged! Within the depths of Tokyo Bay, the behemoth challenged the great city and was met by the best of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. When Godzilla lifted his head from the murky water again, he was blasted with cannon fire and machine guns!
They were nothing to him, existing only to be a nuisance. The saurian made his way to shore and began venting his wrath. People by the dozen were crushed underfoot as he crippled the rail systems. Leaving the entire bay area devastated, Godzilla again returned to the water.
With the entire nation cowering in fear, the Japanese prepared to defend the heart of their city. They quickly erected massive electrical towers around the city and brought in their heavy weapons. It didn’t take long for Godzilla to return again, emerging from the depths to set the world of man aflame. He approached the electrical blockade, and the hopes of millions were shattered. Using his atomic fire, Godzilla melted the steel towers, gaining him access to the city of Tokyo!
As thousands fled for their lives, legions of tanks began to open fire, but it was hopeless. Their rounds failed to even make the beast flinch, and the creature fired back, baptizing the man-made machines in nuclear fire. Within minutes Tokyo was a sea of fire with thousands lay dying underneath it. As mysterious as he appeared, Godzilla began to head back to the water. Just in time, a squadron of fighter jets arrived, trying to blast the monster with rockets.
More than annoyed, Godzilla vanished beneath the depths and headed back out to sea. The world was in total fear of where and when he would strike next. Nothing in man’s arsenal could stop the creature short of a nuclear bomb! However, a lone scientist held the key to his destruction: Dr. Serizawa.
Having to be convinced to use his life’s work, the scientist ventured into the abyss with Ogata. The two, best of friends, swore to vanquish the murderer of millions. Spotting Godzilla lurking, Dr. Serizawa activated the Oxygen Destroyer! As Ogata surfaced and returned to the ship, Dr. Serizawa cut his line. As the weapon began to eliminate the oxygen in the water, suffocating Godzilla, Dr. Serizawa swore that this weapon would never be used again by forfeiting his own life.
Unable to cope, the nuclear behemoth burst from the water! The titan roared his last as his body began to disintegrate within the sea. Falling back to the seafloor, Godzilla had been reduced to a skeleton, and even that was dissolved into nothingness. Humanity was saved, at least for a brief while. As reconstruction on Tokyo began, a new Godzilla emerged from the darkness! Thanks to the atomic age, the world had changed, becoming a world of monsters!
