History: Sunken for centuries, an ancient empire looked at the surface world with envious eyes. As humankind continued on with their destructive ways, the Muans had enough. They had to reclaim the world that was rightfully theirs! They annihilated cities across the globe by triggering devastating earthquakes and eruptions, but one force could still stop them: the Gotengo! They ordered the Japanese to surrender the warship and its creator Captain Jinguji, but the world was not to incline. Instead they sought out the aid of the missing captain and, after a little persuasion, convinced him to the lead the offense against the Muan Empire.
As the battleship dove to the deepest reaches of the ocean, Manda was unleashed. The God of the empire lashed out at the escaping prisoners, but the Gotengo released several smoke bombs, distracting the serpent and buying the escapees enough time to board the ship.
The Gotengo submerged once again and began to approach the kingdom, but Manda was still on active duty. The sea serpent wrapped his lengthy body around the Gotengo, threatening to crush it! As the ship buckled, millions of volts of electricity were surged through the metal hull, electrocuting the reptile. In pain, Manda released his catch and retreated to the rocks. Not allowing such a vile monster to escape, Captain Jinguji fired the Gotengo’s primary weapon: the Zero Cannon!
A blast of icy mist engulfed the serpent, freezing his body instantly. The terrible Manda remained still, frozen to the rocks as the Gotengo moved on to finish his masters. While mankind won the battle, Manda was far from dead. He eventually thawed, but the serpent was captured and relocated to Monster Land in the Pacific. For decades the reptile coexisted with other kaiju of the world, including Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan.
In 1999, years after his first appearance, Manda was taken control of by the Kilaakian race. Along with Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra, Manda was sent forth to destroy Tokyo! The gargantuan serpent slithered across the ground, causing all sorts of destruction as the self-defense forces fired back to no avail. In the end of the kaiju blitz, Tokyo was leveled. Manda and the other three monsters left the ruins behind, but the tides of war were about to change.
Mankind stole the technology to control the beasts and summoned the great creatures to Mount Fuji for an assault against the invaders’ hidden base. Manda remained on the sidelines, watching on as Godzilla, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, and other monsters battled the frenzied King Ghidorah. When the battle was finally over, Manda returned to his home on Monster Land, living out the rest of his life in peace.
